Plans to demolish a former village hall have been withdrawn after being tipped for refusal.

A proposal to knock down 32 and 34 Waterside, Kings Langley, for three terraced houses and an extension to the neighbouring Moat Cottage was submitted in early 2023 and received later amendments, but it was confirmed that it will not be going ahead yesterday .

A letter from Dacorum Borough Council certified that the application had been withdrawn and an accompanying report explained that this was because the application “would be recommended for refusal”.This would have been on the grounds that it lacked a flood risk assessment but there were other issues to be resolved, according to council officers.

Potential pitfalls included possible visual intrusion, the neighbourhood plan, and the protection of the buffer zone alongside the watercourse. The site is less than 100 metres from the Grand Union Canal.Three two-bedroom, two-bathroom terraced homes would have been built, alongside extra rooms for Moat Cottage.

The Langley Hall at 34 Waterside was originally built as a village hall but has since been extended as a commercial site and subsequently boarded up. Moat Cottage is part of a Grade II Listed building, although the part relating to the plan is mostly made up of 1970s additions. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues.
