From the high street you'd never know it's there, but there's a coffee shop in a Wigan town that's become a go-to for coffee lovers and foodies alike.
Thankfully it wasn't quite so long when we arrived for lunch on a busy Saturday, but we still had to wait near the door for a slot to become free. Mayhap is one of a number of businesses to have benefitted from revamped shop fronts around Elliott Street, which has been designated a High Street Heritage Action Zone to transform the Conservation Area. Its sash windows, which have been in place since 1895, have been remodelled and redeveloped, making the shop front look like it did in the Victorian era.
Many of them are there for the coffee, it launched a sister company Oddy Knocky Coffee at the Manchester Coffee Festival last year and has a speciality coffee roastery based in Bolton. Then the pancakes arrived and, as delicious as they looked, I was quite relieved not to be tackling them alone.
