Rishi Sunak has appointed a new ethics adviser whose long business career involved links with disgraced retail tycoon Sir Philip Green and the late Robert Maxwell. Analysis from JonCraig 👇

So Mr Sunak has turned to a former merchant banker who serves on half a dozen quangos and whose long business career involved links with disgraced retail tycoon Sir Philip Green and the late tycoon Robert Maxwell.

Sir Laurie's quango CV includes the chairmanship of Historic England, a former trustee of the conservation charity the Landmark Trust, ex-chair of the National Trust, membership of the Culture Recovery Fund, a trustee of English Heritage Trust and deputy chair of the All Churches Trust. "Laurie Magnus is very much a member of the City's great and the good," a senior Square Mile insider reveals."He was a director of Samuel Montagu, one of the oldest of what we used to call merchant banks, more than 30 years ago. He's very much a patrician character.

joncraig The only surprise with this latest iteration of criminal, callous, guffaw-in-the- population's-face corruption is he didn't appoint his Russia-trading, non-dom wife (is she paying any tax here yet?), or Crispin Odey, Peter Cruddas, Peter Sutcliffe, Owen Paterson or Boris Johnson.

angiebabie2009 joncraig More corruption on the horizon

joncraig The Tree is corrupt from the top to bottom.

joncraig That was quick given just a couple of days he was given a bollocking from the select committee for not having one! Snivel!

joncraig So full due diligence on this character then… What ever happened to integrity and accountability..? Just RishiSunak words…means nothing…as usual, totally disappointing.

joncraig A fix advisor. Pointless. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 GTTO

joncraig Can you smell the corruption?

joncraig He’s a perfect fit for the government

joncraig looks like a slippery character but thats just my first impression and should fit in well with RishiSunak

joncraig Here we go again!

joncraig He should fit in nicely with a corrupt government then.

joncraig Should recognise a lack of ethics a mile off then Just won’t do anything about it

joncraig It's no, not new 👍

joncraig Appointed by Sunak to look after ministerial best interests. And what exactly are ministerial best interests ? Answer = Greed.

joncraig Yes man to government he's got lot of experience in dealing with likes of Philip Green and Robert maxwell that says it all

joncraig Jon Craig said earlier that his job title was actually ministerial interests advisor which doesn’t mention ethics in the job title.

joncraig He'll fit in perfectly

joncraig Hahaha great credentials

joncraig This government just can't stop shooting itself in the foot ! From a massive majority a few years ago they are heading for the political wilderness after the next general election. Absolutely comical to watch.

joncraig Ethics! What a joker.

joncraig Yikes!

joncraig You mean the “independent” ethics advisor who isn’t allowed to investigate anyone unless he has Rishi’s permission..🤔

joncraig

joncraig Conservatives was it ethical to change the rules & simply install the prime minister of YOUR choosing, without a single public vote? A guy who the membership had overwhelmingly JUST rejected! Of course not Corruption

joncraig Corrupt. Com

joncraig Old money... Nothing dubious over this.

joncraig No ethics with this lot surely ?

joncraig Ethic me daddy!
