Editorial: The prime minister’s offer to Labour’s leader seems designed to share the blame rather than the glory

Theresa May’s decision to reach out to the opposition over Brexit comes years too late. She has only done so because she has run out of road. Her speech from Downing Street shows a prime minister shrunken by defeat. It stood in stark contrast to last month’s defiant rabble-rousing statement delivered from the same lectern. All this sours the idea that Mrs May is approaching discussions with Jeremy Corbyn in good faith.

She should resign unconditionally, she is not up to the job clearly, she has had long enough and failed miserably.

What a charade.

FYI, everybody in the EU knows Corbyn is not exactly a remainer, has had enough of the brexit farce, and thinks Britain has been a laughing stock for 2 years and will be for the next decade, especially if it were to remain in the EU. Much ado about nothing.

Brexiters have failed to map out a no deal Brexit. They’ve been saying that the Eu will give us a deal as they need us more;have our cake and eat it. During ref they spouted this,no deal was never mentioned;now it’s all they want. Repeating same but after nodeal. Fool me once

This time next week they will have fallen out back to square one again

If the two can come to a compromise then the two sould also depart as leaders so that we can start afresh after Brexit... I like Corbyn but he has too many baggages and Brexit has wrecked his chance for his reforms and his MPS are terrible. So a Brexit/Resignations of leaders

Co-opting Corbyn and some others into a soft Brexit is also the reason why the ChUK group and die-hard like Owen Smith will not vote for a soft Brexit because it means a BREXIT not a possible Remain. As for the ERG, they are staring a a soft Brexit or Remain. DUPs are Remainers

richsheff If jeremycorbyn was a real leader, he would agree to support theresa_may's deal - on condition it was subject to a PeoplesVote, with Remain as the default if voters didn't support it.

I hope the naysayers in the Labour party can now recognise why Corbyn has been evasive on Brexit for so long. The second referendum option is basically to Remain, so the confirmatory People's vote. That will kill off Labour. Labour last minute sort of support for PV is tactical

It's a bloody disgrace...but these idiots, have no shame.

We need Leaders and Politicians, Parties, who believe in 'Brexit' & actually respect the Electorate... the Public. Because, what I've seen over these near three Years leads me to believe, not in Parliament do and that they only care about themselves.

because this, right here.. is nonsense and not, sadly, surprising... when she is what she is and never believed in 'Brexit'.... Get us out, with 'No-Deal'... Then May and Corbyn, should retire, they are too old and are completely at-odds with the 'Will of the People'...

Miscalculation on a biblical scale for months and months - failing to lance the ERG/ UKIP infection

Really... this is totally what we need... two Remainers, trying to sort out 'Brexit'...seems sensible.. What we actually need, is a P.M. and Leader that believes in 'Brexit' & says, stuff the 'E.U.' then leads into the future, with a 'No-Deal Brexit'.

Definitely too little, too late.
