Helen O'Hara unveils some of the most baffling wins and omissions in Oscar history

Even Crash director Paul Haggis doesn’t think his film should have beaten Ang Lee’s delicate, tragic cowboy romance. And yet the Academy went for the fragmentary ensemble piece rather than the heartbreaker. Maybe they weren’t ready for a film about a gay couple; maybe the voters thought it was more “important” in some way to reward a film about race issues in LA . But whenever people gather together to moan about bad Oscar choices, this will be mentioned within the first five minutes.

My feeling with regard to Jake Gyllenhaal's lack of Oscar for his Brokeback Mountain role is that his part of the story - the wife, his career, etc - was played almost humorously in comparison to the heart-felt despair of Heath Ledger's role. It was Ledger who made us cry.

First the indie objected to the leavers winning now they object to actors winning is there any loser they won’t demand wins ?

Groce injustice indeed. Heath should've got an Oscar from Brokeback ⛰️ But academy was homophobic at the time!

Brokeback mountain, really. 😂

Surprised? Hollywood invented virtue signalling and still master it

With each passing year, my interest in the Oscars becomes less and less. Too political and preachy now.

Sam Mendes in final push for glory at male-dominated OscarsMendes’s macho first world war drama 1917 is tipped for success on Sunday night, but one thing is certain: the best director winner will be a man Hasn’t the Oscars always been Male-dominated? Did you think the sleazy creeps of Hollywood were going to change that? I would be outraged, but I self-identify as someone who doesn't give a shit.
