Government considering 'stealth raid on pensions' as new measure to meet £50 billion black hole

Rishi Sunak has warned that "the government cannot do everything", while pledging to get a grip on inflation, as the UK faces its longest-ever recession,The Prime Minister said he was doing everything possible to tackle inflation and curb rises in mortgage repayments, after the Bank of England raised interest rates to slow rising prices.

Mr Sunak said it was important the Government was honest with voters about the "trade-offs" the country faced in Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's forthcoming autumn statement. "Everyone appreciates that the Government cannot do everything. The latest tax rise news comes after reports that Mr Hunt is also planning to increase the headline rate of capital gains tax, which targets the profits made from selling assets. The government is also looking at changing the reliefs and allowances on the tax, alongside an increase in dividend taxes, and a cut to the tax-free dividend allowance from £1,000 to £2,000, in its autumn statement on November 17.

“That is because tax rules that were meant to be a workplace benefit are becoming a workplace penalty. This is the economics of the madhouse.”

They'll not just limit themeselves to removing the triple lock. A once immovable age of entitlement has risen higher, they've stricken the WASPI women, they've done the hokey cokey with the triple lock. See it get means tested and then removed.

We really need to change the government again! I cannot bear these two faces

Dear Rishi, send your wife a tax bill. Then ask Dido Harding for the £37bn back. There's another £14bn waiting to be recovered from covid fraudsters, so trace where that went and have it back. Matt Hancock might be able to help too if he wasn't eating kangaroo testicles all day.

Tory mismanagement of our economy, pensioner’s, the poor and ordinary people suffering yet again!!! When will these Tories stand up and call a GE then we ALL can have our say!!

RishiSunak, 'the government cannot do everything'? You should've thought of that before Yr govt tanked the economy! I have a novel suggestion: why don't you take a pay cut and put a tax on wealth? TaxTheRich

Throwing any GE win away now they have answers and are cornered !

Tory politician 1st, Tory Party 2nd, Tory funders 3rd, Country 4th … maybe … and 5th the “greater good” or the people

It’s so funny Jeremy actually thinks he is Chancellor,he is the Colt Seaver’s for Sunaks policies

You could always charge road users with electric vehicles road tax, thats a small step but why not? Motorists are an easy screw so start charging them too!!!

Ah, pensions raid, shades of Gordon Brown

50 billion black hole caused by awful track and trace and nasty PPE. Caused by this Government and now wanting us to pay for their awful decisions. If these cuts go ahead it will be the end of the tory party for sure

Not considering the recovery of the billions in fraudulent furlough payments. How strange.

You see truss wanted to give everything to rich people sunak wants to take everything from the people who saved their money while his wife pays nothing or very little in taxes but brexit is great or so moggy keeps trying to convince people who now want to rejoin EU

PensionsDave 'A pensions consultant warned that extending the freeze could put some people off from saving for retirement altogether'. Let's not lose sight of the fact that all he's really doing is taking back the tax relief you've already had. No one needs tax relief for £million pensions

He can solve his tax payment problems for him and his rich family by avoiding paying his taxes but cannot solve the working tax payers high tax problems?

MPs pensions I hope -

The rich will do anything but tax the rich. Evil thieving Tory bastards.

And they expect pensioners to vote for them again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A pair of hunts running the economy.

They want to thank pensioners for their Brexit support.

it's only stealth if media allow it to go unchallenged

Anyone else 😡 & fed up listening to our government telling us about some difficult decisions that will be made and how its necessary. We should not or nor would have been if it wasn't for the mismanagement by the Tories. I'm livid that people may lose their homes

Since 2016 I’ve been expecting something of the sort. How else were they to finance this incredibly reckless Brexit nonsense- with moonbeams?

It's not covid, it's not Ukraine... it's Brexit. Wake up and stop believing all the Jeremy Hunts in the Tory party. ToryShambles

If they don't follow through with their pension promises they had better call for a general election

Why don’t they never make the wealthy businesses pay?

Is it coincidence the 40 billion black hole is what it cost to leave the EU ?

Very good as Long as it hits the people with high private pensions and Not state pensioners

Death knoll for me healthy majority of conservative voters are pensioners this might be a vote to hand it to labour and Diane Abbott

Rishi Sunak spotted selling poppies at tube station during rush hourWe don't think many people would expect to see the Prime Minister on the morning commute. Rishi Sunak was spotted at Westminster tube station today, alongside several army personnel, selling poppies to passers-by. Rishi Sunak has a mandate and no amount of complaining will change that. Because he has that much time on his hands whilst my 6 pint of milk increased by 15p over night?
