The local authority has been working to filter out “through traffic” in the Manswood and Hillpark areas while helping to facilitate safer routes to school.

A south side rat run has left the street so badly damaged it is wrecking local buses, angry local residents.

The measures do not appear to be having much of an impact however. Councillor Stephen Curran said: “I want to talk about the Mansewood and Hillpark safer streets. It refers to public transport still remaining significant in terms of something that would be supported and potentially enhanced and encouraged further in that area.

“The community council that covers Mansewood and Hillpark heard from PVT Transfer who now run the 29 bus service which is mentioned in the report - and they have only ran it since Christmas - but they have already had three punctures, two broken springs and ticket machines have bounced and smashed out the cradle in the bus.
