The Hoops boss believes youngsters on the continent have a huge advantage due to better weather.

Brendan Rodgers watched Celtic’s kids shiver during Storm Babet last week and admitted Scottish football’s climate will always impact player development.

The Hoops boss believes youngsters on the continent have a huge advantage due to better weather while this country spends winter battening down the hatches. He said: “Climate’s massive. Kids in Spain can train and work for many hours outside whereas I was watching our kids playing here at Lennoxtown on Thursday night and – God bless them – it was just about staying warm.

“So when it’s like that, temperature comes into it. You can’t play 100 miles an hour, you’ve got to change the rhythm of the game. To do that you need a good technical base. “Culture’s based around environment – that’s why it’s a struggle for some players . They struggle because the tempo of the game is so high but you can still get really good levels of technique.”
