As of writing, the game is sitting at 26% positive reviews, though that number was as low as 22% earlier in the day. That seems brutal—and it may be to an extent—but performance issues are making the game close to unplayable for many. The biggest offender is stuttering, something that was noted in the performance side of our review. It's mostly present when loading into new areas or either side of cutscenes and animations.
A couple of Steam reviews jokingly refer to the game as"The Stuttering Protocol," while several others have called it"a mess." Even with several people owning RTX 30 series GPUs—and some even 40 series—stutters and frame drops even with ray-tracing turned off are rampant. It looks to be thanks to shader compilation, a common cause of stuttering especially with Unreal Engine 4, the chosen engine for The Callisto Protocol.
Seems like it's a classic 'indie title boosted to way beyond its original scope' and suffering under it in many ways. Performance, gameplay scope, pacing.
One of the most glaring problems with this game is that it was blatantly optimized only for AMD hardware, which no one owns. It has a lot of really shitty actual graphical problems - not performance - on Nvidia cards. Like the glass reflections are not only terrible but illogical
Seems weird to post this on Sunday, over 24 hours after the performance issues have been fixed.
Always wait 2 months before playing any game to be patched . I never play day 1 games now
Not everything runs on PC. Not everything runs on consoles. After 20+ years it's time to learn that already.
What to expect? Its such a goodlooking game with insane graphics.. youre old hardware is nice for fortnite but the new games need new hardware..
And still you guys have him almost 8
Games are designed to be played on console, it's pretty glaringly obvious with the last 5 years of horrible PC releases. I made the switch to PS5 and never have any more issues like this. Feels good to enjoy games again 🤙
It reminds me of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. This is why I never buy a game at launch time. It's better to wait a year or so. The hype is gone, and the game is selling for about half of its launch price.
It's probably the kind of game that runs absolutely perfectly on the right alchemical combination of hardware. Shame too, 'cause the world design, combat, voice acting, controls and setting are sublime. Hope the launch doesn't hurt the devs too much.
Relative to Crapton and PoopG after all
My game wasn’t stuttering much so I’m curious to know how bad some ppl had it for them to give negative reviews
Listen shit happens and is correctable. Change the settings and bam it works. I raged trying to get working friend and i messed around did some reading and im more then halg way through and wow. If youre a dead space fan , a true one, youd not be bitching bout day 1 launch.
If the game is great aside from performance, then it’s not a great game. It’s just a game that could be.
Why is that? Oh yeah. Because folx don’t consider poor performance an issue for a game nearly as much as they should until it’s no longer a priority. “I don’ cur bout graffix or fps” crowd is to blame. It’s hard to enjoy slideshows fpsmatters Makes a great game terrible.
Every AAA game post 2019 be like:
LMAO 🤣
my hype for the Dead space remake has died down faster than
Me when yet another big title release is a bug filled poorly optimized product pushing me further and further toward AA and indie purity:
It's great seeing discourse because something is genuinely bad
Works great on ps5. Loving the game so far. Shame it has pc issues. Should've just waited to release it on pc at a later date until those problems were fixed
😂😂
Performance is better with the current patch, but still not perfect.
Yeah I fully beat the game on PC, the performance is all over the place and I have a 3080ti, it'll be 100fps 1 second then drop into the 50s and that's after the shader fix, took me around 9 hours to beat on the hardest difficulty too
They boned the pc and Xbox.
If the performance were good I’d recommend the game. We need to stop letting this sh1t slide. Yeah it’s a “good” game, but it doesn’t deserve the praise if you catch my drift. No more excuses. Downvote it. Do not recommend. Only support it once that changes.
Great game
The DRM may be the culprit but will have to see what is the actual problem in time so avoid till then
I usually do the opposite of ign. They are the CNN of game news 🤣
Bizzare that Sony helps the team develop the game by giving them I think 100 or 150 employees to assist, and the only platform the game seems to run on is a PS5.
File this under: 'Why we don't fucking preorder or impulse day 1 buy games.'
Krunkjuuce 😂
Games is also ass with performance issues
What's scariest is the pc performance of this thing. This has to be the worst optimized game I have played in recent history
Hows its handling ob PS5?
Looooool there have been a lot of cases but people still don’t learn to not preorder a game
Absolutely garbage we are being charged $60-$80 (or more) for games nowadays that are FULL of bugs or just Lite versions of something done better in the early 2000’s but with better graphics lol I had high hopes for Callisto Protocol. Now won’t get it til heavy steam sale
Me everytime a triple A unfinished game flops
Crapton and PoopG made it scary lol
People didn't learn from Cyperpunk 2077, I never pre-ordered a game since Cyperpunk
When you do marketing for AAA and sell B class game players are upset
'Yes lets make a game now and we gonna use this magical tool called the internet to patch the game later' It's quite dumb how this mentality is still present even after many examples of AAA games doing this over the years and not ending to well for the studio.
And a 79 score with you, so that means the franchise is dead.
This sucks so much, I had cancelled my ps5 pre order and swapped to steam to run this better. Seems my first choice was the one to go for sadly. Back to console version. 🥴
oh yeah lets defend poor devs for releasing unoptimazed games cause they will just patch it. i get it that reviewer might have liked the game enough to give it 79 but saying that its good they are getting more positive reviews when they don deserve that is just cringe
Hopefully numbers like this will hurt sales to the extent that the industry will start recognising the importance of solving this shader recompilation nonsense once and for all. It's an embarrassment that consoles now consistently get superior experiences on AAA titles.
The reviews. It's like no developer wants to or knows how to optimize a game anymore, or knows how to even properly build a game technically. It's utter horror.
Seems they just remade dead space and gave it a doom ripoff story 😂
Yet your official review barely mentions the abhorrent performance on some of the highest range components money can buy. Very poor.
Never dayone any game from now on
The only scary thing is your journalist integrity
Aw, damn
AAA games these days.. Expected.Devs don't even try their games before releases anymore.
hot garbo
Like literally every AAA game now. Optimization is now no longer a thing. Cutting corners, charging more, etc… just slap on DLSS and FSR and call it a day. Facepalm 🤦🏽♂️
This is a software engineering mindset, the agile method, of release now fix later with patches.
Gonna be honest, if a game runs like ass on PC at this point, they completely deserve the terrible review scores. If you're selling a PC game day one, you deserve that scrutiny, especially since you're demanding insane specs to run the game to your 'ideal'.
'Not buying a game on release day' jar
Gonna play it soon, got it free with my GPU
