Apart from occasionally looking at overpriced flats which I would never be able to afford on Rightmove, I am no property expert. So I always find myself thinking one thing while watching? Why are people falling out of escrow and getting so stressed about it? What does itwas in escrow on her dream house, and got so excited she pulled the chain off the bell she had to ring in the office?
Turns out I'm the same as a lot of people, as numerous people on Twitter have been shouting the same question into the abyss. In fact, when season four aired last year, search for 'what is escrow' has increased by 110% in the UK, presumably as people are Googling on their phones when the glamorous real estate agents use the mythical term.
So, the big question, what is escrow? Well, it is associated with real estate in the US, hence why you hear it on the show so much, and it means when neutral third party holds on to funds during a transaction. It's used to protect buyers and sellers, so sellers know that their buyers have the money to purchase the house, and that buyers know they're not being scammed with some fake million-dollar listing.
Even Chrishell cleared it up for one confused fan, explaining in simple terms we can all understand: 'Escrow is when you are in a current deal to get a house sold. Escrow is the safe 3rd party that holds the money until all the red tape is done.'
