Skincare has come a long way since the days where there was only an offering for women. Nowadays, skincare predominantly comes unisex and, alongside some more traditional men's skincare brands, there are a whole host of great gender-neutral offerings which do everything from nourish and hydrate tired skin to de-clog pores and exfoliate dead skin cells from its surface.
The desire for great skincare is universal, but skin types are not. While some men may enjoy pilfering some of your lotions and serums, their skin does actually have slightly different needs, so the best men's skincare must be chosen accordingly – which means more than just the odd swoosh of your favourite Drunk Elephant product when your back is turned.
On the whole, men's skin is slightly thicker than women's and those who shave daily also benefit from it as a form of daily exfoliation. Combined with naturally higher collagen levels, their skin naturally needs fewer ingredients to stay in good shape. But that is not to say that they should avoid looking after their skin with the right set of skincare products in an effective morning and night routine.
Brands like Kiehl's, Clinique and Tom Ford already offer products specifically marketed to men's skin, with shaving foams, beard oils and exfoliating scrubs all created with facial hair in mind. These bestselling men's skincare options are neither greasy, sticky or perfumed, making them a great starting point for men slightly averse to using products.
