Of the 6,630 providers that offer maternity care in England, 53 were rated 'inadequate' and 391 were rated 'requires improvement'

mums across the UK are experiencing ‘inadequate’ maternity care, it was revealed earlier this week. The Birth Trauma Inquiry published a report from the testimonies of 1,300 women, with many left traumatised from giving birth.

Providers are inspected by the CQC, who will do site visits, conduct staff interviews and questionnaires, using video conferencing, reviewing patient records and more. Each provider is then given an overall ranking too. In its review, CQC said: ‘The practice did not provide care in a way that kept patients safe and protected from avoidable harm. Not all patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.’
