The BBC is failing the public with its deference to the Royals

Meanwhile, excitement is rising in monarchist Lalaland. Who will be the new BBC Royal editor? It’s a vacancy created after the dependableretired last winter, after 25 years. The corporation considers it “reputationally critically important” to cater for the “significant audience interest in stories reflecting personal aspects of the royals and recent controversies”.

“Is it really too much to expect reporters and newsreaders to bring the same news values and objectivity to the coverage of royalty that they would bring to any other subject, and to display the same scepticism towards PR stunts, even if they’re perpetrated by and for the House of Windsor’s family business?”

I suspect that much of the anti-Meghan hysteria has tacit Royal approval. It’s interesting to look at who appears in Royal circles and events. In 2022, for example, Camilla reportedly invited Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan – open Meghan haters – to a grand lunch. The BBC appears so unwilling to scrutinise the King, Queen and working Royals, beyond their public appearances and PR tours, that it’s difficult not to conclude the corporation’s mission is to ensure subjects carry on believing in this fake religion and to protect the reputations and privileges of the demigods.
