A 6ft Tesco worker who claimed he was mocked after being ‘held hostage’ in an office by his pregnant boss has been awarded a payout of nearly £48,000 for sex discrimination.
Toby King said he was ‘falsely imprisoned’ in a back room of the supermarket by 5ft 4in Jo Francis as she tried to get him to work extra shifts at Christmas in 2018. He told employment judges Ms Francis, who was five months pregnant, put her foot against the door, had her hand on the door handle and grabbed his arm to stop him leaving.
Mr King said when he spoke about it to another boss at the store in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, he was told a ‘big man’ could not be frightened by a ‘small pregnant woman’. But Mr King said it left him unable to go outside without crying as he had been held hostage during work for the prison service and diagnosed with PTSD.
