The doors can be set to retract automatically as customers approach or require staff with a key card to open them.Security barriers are being trialled in the Tesco booze aisle at the Extra store in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, to cut down on theftsIt means any suspect shoppers would be supervised buying their goods.A supermarket source told The Sun: “It is quite an extreme method to cut down on theft but a very effective one.

Sources said shoplifters have taken advantage of the store’s lower staffing levels at night to steal.
