The announcement came as hundreds of thousands of school pupils were saying sometimes tearful goodbyes to each other for possibly the last time.
The list has been separated into eight categories, including frontline health workers and social-care staff, nursery and teaching workers and those involved in food production and delivery. They will instead comprise a patchwork of available teachers, support staff and pupils whose parents find themselves lucky enough to be on the key workers' list.
On the up side, the lucky ones may have a chance to learn in new and different ways, while their former classmates grapple with online learning from home. Dr Mary Bousted, joint-general secretary of the National Education Union, said:"This is a very long list and could result in some schools having the majority of pupils attending."She added:"There simply won't be enough education staff available for work on school sites if all members with symptoms are forced to self-isolate."
Ridiculous. Why not reschedule for Aug? We are smart. We can figure that out. This is unfair to the kid who did poorly in mocks but figured out what was needed and is ready to ace the exam. Also, sad but true some teachers just dont like some kids! Favor others!
Reconsider the decision to cancel GCSEs and A levels: gcse2020 alevels
Significant number of students believed that mocks & teacher assessments were redundant therefore they did not try their best. Suddenly the mocks have been deemed as having extreme importance and will hence decide their fate. Reconsider the decision to cancel GCSEs and A levels.
Disgraceful use of the word 'lucky' when referring to the children of key workers being offered a place in schools next week. There is nothing 'lucky' about it given the worldwide crisis we are in.
Anything that makes DFE happy.
