Teachers fear racism cancel culture - Birmingham City's Troy Deeney

Troy Deeney explores the teaching of black and Asian history in the documentary on Monday evening

It was launched in April when Mr Deeney revealed the results of a YouGov survey he commissioned, which he said showed the majority of British teachers who took part in the study, believe the school system has a racial bias, while only 12% feel empowered to teach diverse topics. Teachers could be "demonised", he added, as the subject was "so polarising, and you can't really have an opinion and you can't get something wrong".

Troy, I watched your documentary and you highlighted something I first questioned as a child in 1979 when in year 7 of high school and then again in 2020 as a parent... 'Why is Black History not taught in English schools?' Answer: 'We could but we don't!' No change then!

We're not a week away from a kid losing a finger because his school refused to acknowledge the racism he faced. Can't go a year without white kids pushing a black kid in a river and getting away with it. Fearing cancel culture when English racisms so explicit is utterly pathetic.

I send my child to school to learn, not be indoctrinated with the current think. Stick to teaching core subjects, the thing your paid for. Social education is taught by the society we live in not pushed by your central narrative. Global news stories made local, BBC Homework
