A school is looking into complaints made by children that a teacher made an "inappropriate" comment regarding the Hillsborough stadium disaster.
Rainhill High is the official Liverpool FC Academy Education Centre in Merseyside, where the club's under-18 players are educated. The school and the club have had a formal partnership for more than 10 years, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold all attending in the past.
She added: “Whilst undergoing this investigation we are unable to discuss the outcome, although we can relay that this member of staff has acknowledged their mistake as the choice of words was inappropriate. They are sincerely sorry for causing any offence or distress, as this was certainly not their intention. As a school, we echo this apology and are deeply sorry for any upset or distress that has been caused.
