A total of 3,100 people in Tadcaster - which has a population of nearly 6,350 - are against the scheme. Patrick Tunney, who handed in the petition to the council on Tuesday, said building houses on the central area car park was not a "feasible, viable or deliverable proposition" and was "not in the long-term interests of the town".
He said the proposal to build an underground car park did not solve the town's parking needs and did not provide a like-for-like alternative.The car park scheme is just part of a plan for more than 300 new homes in the townHowever, Conservative councillor Andrew Lee said it was "unfair" to say everyone was against the plan.
Actually we think it’s a good idea to build homes in the center of town. Most of the buildings around the area are laying empty, and resemble a wasteland seen from Fallout.
