‘This swimmer had done a considerable amount to give herself a chance of being rescued if things went wrong'

This is the dramatic moment a swimmer was airlifted by the coastguard who spotted her bright pink hat.

The woman was swept out to sea at Little Fistral beach, near Newquay in Cornwall, sparking a daring rescue mission yesterday afternoon. Luckily, she was wearing a pink hat and holding a pink float which was noticed by someone on the shore who called 999.The rescue was caught on camera by the coastguard who filmed the woman being pulled out of the water and helped into the helicopter.Coastguard Matt Rogers said: ‘This swimmer had done a considerable amount to give herself a chance of being rescued if things went wrong.

‘She not only had a float that was a bright pink colour but was wearing a hat of the same colour too.‘It’s a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong even for the most experienced and why you should do all you can to help us help you if the worst happens.’
