Hundreds of sun-seeking Mancunians have hit up the city centre's greenspace to soak up the last of the sunshine before the weekend hits a stormy end. As we come to the end of Greater Manchester's first bout of warm weather in 2024, you would think summer has arrived early as droves of people flock to Piccadilly Gardens with cold drinks and picnics in tow.
Temperatures reached highs of 23 degrees and it is to stay dry overnight with prolonged clear spells across the region. There will be much-welcomed light winds throughout the latter half of the day however it will remain warm despite the clear skies, dropping to temperatures as low as 12 degrees. Things are set to take a turn for the worse on Sunday. While the day is to begin dry and bright, some regions can expect thunder showers to develop in the afternoon bringing heavy rain, lightning, possible hail, and gusty winds. There is a yellow weather warning in place for thunderstorms, which the Met Office currently predict will take place between 7pm-8pm.
