bbclaurak I'm only an administrator and my husband is a self employed electrician. If he cant work he cant get any money and he cant get universal credit because I earn! What I get a month doesnt even cover the direct debits. Let alone getting food

bbclaurak This lady has to be the worst interviewer in British history, clearly a Boris hater.

bbclaurak Please sort out why I am a non essential worker still working otherwise I will get diddly squat. Not self employed, but company doesn’t have money to pay us indefinitely.

Care workers working on the front line looking disabled and infirm patients all over the country have virtually no PPe and if they become ill will get just SSp. If a person is laid off they will get up to 2.5k per month how is this right? Care workers need more protection.

I think a lot of those self employed workers might regret all those 'cash in hand' jobs over the next few months!!

bbclaurak bbclaurak can you find out what the timeline is for the grants & 80% employed pay is? Still waiting on hmrc & local authority. Are we talking weeks/month? Businesses need to plan for cash flow. Tia

Mike_Fabricant It's not aid. It's a transfer of money from one person to another, money that was taken from citizens by the government under the threat of punishment. It's not benevolent, it's not free and it certainly isn't 'aid'. Describe things as they are, not in accordance with ideology.

bbclaurak Laura, why oh why did you not challenge the PM about this appalling confused message issued by Number 10?: We've told staff to stay at home (on full pay) based on the first announcement.

bbclaurak The British Government should be ashamed BorisJohnson rishisunak - CBILS is a long and clunky process, most small biz will not qualify & the biz that do are taking on massive debt which they have to pay back in a 0 sales envirnmnt. Most small biz will go bust in coming months.

BBCPolitics Never be as much as the EU put out for their SelfEmployedMatterToo Failure of a government! And you BBC are partially responsible for it.

BBCPolitics Total BS. The Working Tax Credit assessment and Income Support both managed to do just fine working off taxable income.

katesilverton Mmmm they've been saying that for the past two daysbelieveitwhenIseeit

We have to be careful here that the cure does not kill more people than the disease. The amount of spending already may lead to decades of poverty for many and there is no guarantee that this deadly virus can ever be eradicated (like colds and flu) due to mutations.

I’ve seen a lot of people moan because they can’t get UC as thry have more than 16k in sabpvings and are self- employed. People are literally dying.

Coronavirus is a stress-test for the cabinet, and Rishi Sunak is coming out best | Katy BallsThe chancellor is making his mark in the Covid-19 crisis, says the Spectator’s deputy political editor Katy Balls Jocking for the top job...More like it. ' How do ,I come a cross to the public at the moment'. Least worst doesn't make him eligible to be called 'best'. How can the Guardian, of all papers, not be able to use negative language about politicians unless they're left wing? The Govt are a shambles and people are dying. More people are dying. Many have already died austerity A lot of numbers have been thrown around but we have yet to see help coming from the govt for NHS staff, for people and businesses affected by this pandemic. As we knew all along this government would be a farce and nothing has happened yet to change our minds to the contrary.

Guarantee the self-employed 80% of their income too, urges think tankThe Resolution Foundation think tank says the Government should offer to cover most of the lost incomes of the self-employed through a new compensation scheme What about the recently unemployed- those who would have easily found new jobs, but are now out of luck? What about the single moms and dads who were already on the edge? This bailout needs to cover everyone. Of course they should - it’s the small businesses & self employed who hire each other, and have nothing when things go sideways. Not so much “trickle down” as “massive uncontrolled landslide” if you forget Main Street alongside the High Street. COVID19 supportsmallbusiness I agree with that 😃
