Consumers may be hit with higher prices if ships cannot wait any longer and are forced to take the much longer route to Europe.

"For those of us who are interested in offsetting our carbon emissions and take responsibility for the movement of freight, we'll also need to consider that these journeys will now incur much pollution as part of the normal operation."

The company has decided not to pass any of these extra costs on for now - but says others might not have the choice. The canal is a vital link from Asia to Europe and saves several weeks' travel around southern Africa"It will affect us all as consumers as well," says Mr Joseph,"where the prices of those goods are so sensitive to the freight costs that those retailers have no alternative but to pass them on.

The crisis has made an already difficult time even tougher, coming hot on the heels of all the pain caused by the pandemic."A lot of shops are looking forward to reopening, and doing so with the prospect of not being entirely sure when the products they're selling are arriving."As costs stack up, what might feel like a faraway crisis could soon be felt in prices closer to home.

We can send a rover on Mars but we can't refloat or unwedge a tanker on earth 🤦‍♂️

It's time to give them a call

It’s a bloody containership!!!! Not a ‘super tanker’

It’s not a super tanker, it’s a container ship. All costs will be covered by global P&I insurance, therefore no cost to customers of expected goods. Maybe some delay, but absolutely no excuse for increase in prices.

Why hasn't anybody called it 'Suez Crisis' yet? Or at least '2.0'? You know how much Brits would love to bring up the Vietnam War if they could? (P.S. they did during 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.)

They say if the ocean freezes we are inly a week away from running out of food. Tankers are vital to all the world and this is super serious. I feel sorry for any live stock stuck on tankers suffering 😢😢

If returning to China we must presume that the top layers of containers are empty. Fly them off with heavy lift helicopters. It will lighten the load increase stability. And enable you to pump off ballast water and if need be excess fuel. Lighten the load this will go along way.

Quick raise the price of petrol ........ perfect excuse to use this

Actually Sky News...it's not a supertanker, it's Captain Nemo's sub ! Who writes your articles ? Fire the plonker ! 😜😡

'super tanker'? slynews even you should know that it a a container ship.

This problem for.... RAMBO .. Is... Easy.... 😅😅😅...

Let me tell it was ment to be in Felixstowe docks next Saturday full of stuff from China which obviously won't be happening now, oh and it's not a super tanker 🤦‍♂️

Shocked

'Could' also mean you're posting bollocks to generate clicks because your reporting isn't news but click-baiting shite to scare people over fuck all

It's part of a big reset everything is set up

Keep it, crap from china only lasts a month anyway

Mmmmm nah. We’ll wait 😃

😂 😂 😂 Another one you can blame instead of Brexit

Why? Sure loss stock but why am increase

Any excuse!

Load of rubbish

Cancel the order before it gets here.. Simple. Or get compensation from Evergreen. Don't dare pass on to the consumer.

Ok once you try and put prices up we will just buy elsewhere simple 😂😂😂

Higher prices for China's sellers why we should pay for their expsenses
