Suella Braverman tonight offered her 'full backing' to the Metropolitan Police in the wake of a furious row over her claims about the force's handling of pro-Palestinian marches.

Meanwhile, Mr Sunak issued a plea for unity ahead of Armistice Weekend, when London will play host to both the pro-Palestinian demonstration and Remembrance events. Officers stand beside the Cenotaph in Whitehall as part of a dedicated 24-hour police presence, which will remain in place until the conclusion of Remembrance events on Sunday

She added: 'Unfortunately, there is a perception that senior police officers play favourites when it comes to protesters. Advertisement The number of police officers on duty in London will be double the usual amount, with 1,850 officers on Saturday and 1,375 on Sunday. Following Mrs Braverman's meeting with Sir Mark today, a source close to her said: 'The Home Secretary and the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police met this afternoon to discuss the policing of demonstrations to be held tomorrow, on Armistice Day.

In a statement issued by Downing Street, the PM said: 'Veterans, loved ones of those who gave their lives for their country and many more of us will want to honour this moment.
