The fault was in the questions, which caused huge distress to students. It should not be necessary to adjust grade boundaries: just set a fair exam!

I'm 66 and just found out I got an A in A-level math that I took in 1969, better late than never

So they only need to get 2/3 of the questions right!? Shocking

Why “just”? Surely this depends on the relative difficulty of the exam as set? The grade boundaries are set based on the distribution of the students’ results on these particular exam papers, not against some objective perfect ideal exam.
