Giovanni Pernice has become a firm favourite with Strictly Come Dancing viewers since he first entered the ballroom back in 2015. The Italian professional dancer, 33, reached the final in his very first year on the show with Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote.
He recalled: "Everything changed for me one night when I watched Come Dancing. I saw the chemistry between the boys and the girls as they competed, and I loved how movement allowed you to express yourself in a way I’d never seen. It was in that moment I realised what I wanted to be." He said he would end up missing Christmases and birthdays because he was so focused on training. He told the Guardian: "From those teenage years onwards, I had competitions every week. Preparation for those events took so much discipline that I’d end up missing Christmases and birthdays because I was intent on training. To this day, celebrations have never really been my strength."

She did not give a specific reason when she announced her decision to leave the show in October, saying in a post on Instagram: “I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue.” "In every single part of the world, if a professional dancer, we have to get these people on the Saturday night looking the best as they can. And if we get to have good scores at the end, I look back and say ‘I’ve done a great job’. We all care about our partners and we all want to look great on the Saturday.
He said it was a "tough job to do, for sure" with four days to create a new dance, teach the technique and complete other interviews during the week leading up to the show. “So I can’t get sick of that. And we understand each other. I know when he needs his own moment and when I need my own moment. It’s a relationship. I call him the Padrino – the Godfather – because he really, really looks after me."
