St Johnstone have sacked Steven MacLean and are considering a move for Livingston boss David Martindale. Martindale has admirers at St Johnstone and has worked wonders at Livingston despite budget cuts and ownership changes. Former Hearts boss Robbie Neilson and ex-Inverness manager Billy Dodds are also being discussed as potential candidates for the St Johnstone manager position.

St Johnstone are considering a shock move for Livingston boss David Martindale - after they sacked Steven MacLean.

MacLean won the Scottish Cup as a player in 2014 and was assistant to Callum Davidson when they won the cup double in 2021, while Craig is the club’s all-time appearance holder. Harris said: “This was the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make. A short statement from the club confirmed the departure and the fact Alex Cleland would likely be in charge for Wednesday night’s home clash with Kilmarnock. It is clear that all is now well at the Perth club, which is up for sale and has had to fight relegation over the last two seasons.

He was given the job on a full-time basis in May and brought in Craig, who is the club’s all-time record appearance holder up from his full-time job with the academy. MacLean was then however told he had to slash his budget by over £1 million, as a result of a massive overspend in an attempt to keep the team in the top-flight.
