The space agency has instructed the help of Elon Musk’s aerospace company with the first-ever attempt to deflect an asteroid by purposely crashing into it. At an astonishing cost of £53 million the Double Asteroid Redirection Test will look to divert any asteroid which threatens the earth’s atmosphere. DART will launch a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in June 2021.
