Social tenants forced to live in damp, mouldy homes have been ‘left with breathing problems and skin conditions’. Figures show social housing tenants are twice as likely to be living in these conditions 🔴 Victoria_Spratt

reveal four per cent of social rented properties have some type of damp problem, compared to two per cent of owner-occupied homes.

From the outside, the homes look accommodating: two-storey maisonette flats, with red front doors, white windowpanes, and back gardens. Inside residents are living in poor conditions.show thick mould and other signs of disrepair inside several homes, which tenants claim were not remedied despite years of complaints.

The mum-of-one, who has lived in the property for more than a decade, said: “The problems began six months after I moved in. “The doctor told me that it could turn into pneumonia and I’m still taking antibiotics because it isn’t clearing. While I am living here, I don’t think it will go away.”The mould and damp in Kirsty and Christine’s homes has been covered over with thermal board as a form of insulation.“A representative of Hyde also told me when they visited my home that the damp will ‘always be a problem’ here because it is a structural issue, so I know they’re just covering it up,” Kirsty adds.
