Smirking thief who left pregnant woman terrified gets nasty shock from jail

A Leeds thug who smashed his way into a pregnant woman's home with a machete has had his prison sentence doubled.

He was found guilty of aggravated burglary after a trial. But, following an appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, he has now had his sentence doubled to eight years.The scheme allows anyone to ask for certain Crown court sentences to be reviewed by the Attorney General's Office if they think the sentence is too lenient.

"The court's intervention is a welcome one and this case should send a stark warning that those who commit violent burglaries will face the full extent of the law for their crimes."
