A search is under way for the people responsible for dumping six tonnes of asbestos waste down a country lane., was forced to close for four days while the area was made safe by specialist cleaners - at a cost of £2,500 of taxpayers' money.
Wealden Council is now searching for the perpetrators behind the dumping of the potentially harmful waste, which has been banned since 1999. Asbestos is a dangerous carcinogen that can lead to lung problems if ingested, and was previously used in buildings for things like insulation, flooring and roofing.Wealden Council believes the sheer quantity of the dumped waste means it would have to have been moved there on a large vehicle or in a skip.
