He was appointed as a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the oldest and most senior British Order of Chivalry, with the honour from the Queen regularly bestowed upon past prime ministers including most recently Sir John Major.is already dividing opinion, with some questioning whether his role in the UK's war with Iraq should disqualify him.at the time of publishing, Sir Tony was described as the "least deserving person of any public honour".
Peter Geoghegan, editor of Open Democracy, said the reaction to the announcement has been fairly predictable. However, some have defended Sir Tony's knighthood, with his former adviser John McTernan insisting it is an "absolutely brilliant recognition" of the former Prime Minister's achievements.
Are people bloody clueless
This wouldn't be a conversation if we eradicated this pointless Monarchy!
He dosnt deserve it
65 million in a country 140.000 in percentage wise what is that. 0.000000000000000001
All brexiteer tories. No doubt
I’m sure the Queen will be looking at the petition on an hourly basis.
Where is the signature list for us to sign !
Good luck with that would love to know who’s idea that was
lockeddownout There’s something strangely reassuring about the Queen personally choosing to make Blair a Garter Knight when a number of Blair’s supporters are always calling for the abolition of the monarchy, and the Lords for that matter. The message must be that HM can’t abide Johnson. Snap!
Hmmm. There are far more underserving recipients of knighthoods. Blair was wrong on Iraq but, then, you can bet every other PM would have followed along behind the Americans cos that's what they all did. Not being an apologist, just saying get the priorities right.
Corbyn fanatics and tory trolls, basically. Nobody genuine cares.
Who the hell decided he’s worth a honour what a joke
So despite what these plastic patriots pretend to stand for, they don’t respect the Queens decisions
Sad. Most of them probably weren't even of voting age when he left office!
now at 163,000
2 Labour leaders in my lifetime ended in disappointment, one by his own actions & one by the actions of others
So what. Plenty of evil people on that list already.
A million people marched against his war, that did do anything either!
Best Priminister we've ever had in this country, well deserved!
It might just be my cynicism but this feels like a useful distraction for a government and PM who's own actions are being questioned...
Do try & remember, this particular honour is in the gift of HM Queen Elizabeth, NOT a political one. It is rare. I doubt she would have made it without very good reason.
Surprised to see people defending him.
This particular knighthood is the personal gift of the Queen, politics shouldn't be brought into it.
This is why Blair should have been knighted…
link?
You listners might like to educate themselves a little before joining this futile petition. The award given to Tony Blair was a personal one from the monarch, it was nor a ministerial appointment.
Cherie..Cherie baby…
You'd think the right wing would support him more given he all did for them. 🤪
And replace the knighthood with a warrant for his arrest.
My how the Hard Left hate him!
Just wait until they get Sir Boris
I’m sure the same happened with Ian Duncan Smith, but that was swept under the carpet along with everything else. 😏
