Sir Ian McKellen is celebrating his 80th birthday in style – putting on a whopping 80 shows on the West End.Not content with having toured a string of venues around the UK on his Ian McKellen On Stage tour, he has delighted fans by bringing his one-man show to the Harold Pinter Theatre.
Discussing the news, the Lord Of The Rings star said: ‘Taking this new show to 80+ theatres around the country has been a joyful birthday present to myself. ‘I’ve played mainly in theatres I knew well as a young theatregoer and actor. On my birthday, I was in Bolton Town Hall where my dad used to work.’Ian’s tour kicked off at his local theatre in East London, and has seen him perform around the country in venues of all sizes.And, showing just how generous he is, he has given all profits from the tour were given back to each theatre he performed at, in a bid to help with different causes and repairs.
