Following the sad passing of the Manchester United and England footballing legend, Sir Bobby Charlton, a charity have been reflecting on the time he brought a star-studded squad to Belfast for a friendly game to raise money for cross community projects.
"Co-operation Ireland had a fundraising group in Scotland with a few Irish businessmen and they used to put on a golf classic for us each year with anywhere between 80 to 100 golfers at places like Gleneagles. Sir Bobby Charlton came to one of those with the Variety Club of Great Britain," Terry told Belfast Live.
Sir Bobby said that he would make contact with the Cooperation North team but they didn't expect to hear from him. The hastily arranged fixture sold out within hours and a capacity crowd witnessed Man Utd go down to the International Select 2-1.
