The question we're all asking...

Lucy Dixon Social media editor With families officially allowed to mingle over Christmas, many people are asking if schools should be closing early so children have longer away from their school bubbles BEFORE they start seeing potentially vulnerable family members.

Plus there's always that chance of getting a last-minute message from the school, saying someone in your child's school bubble has a confirmed case of COVID ... meaning your son or daughter must self-isolate during the five days of Christmas. This has of course caused childcare nightmares for some parents and School Standards Minister Nick Gibb does not think it is a good move.'The best place for children to be is in schools, which is why it remains a national priority to keep them open full time and avoid further disruption to education.

'School already terrifies my kids, they don't feel safe from Covid-19 there. If schools don't close early, they will be isolated from their elderly, ill grandparents over Xmas. They are the only people we see as normal. The kids would prefer to see their family over friends.' @Mrs_Breckon Despite the growing calls for a wider early closure of schools, the government has not acted. So far.
