The sister of Sheku Bayoh, who died after being restrained in police custody, has told an inquiry she believes the family would have been treated differently "if we were white".She appeared at an inquiry which was launched to investigate the circumstances of 31-year-old's death and to determine whether race was a factor. Ms Johnson said two police officers gave her the news her brother had died on the afternoon of May 3.
Angela Grahame KC, lead counsel to the inquiry, asked how Ms Johnson felt to be given changing information. She replied: “We started to feel suspicious. She asked Ms Johnson, a staff nurse, why she said that and whether she thinks they would have been treated differently had they been a white family living in Kirkcaldy.
I agree with her if he had been white there would not have been an enquiry as white people can’t use the race card. Sorry for their loss though
