SHARKS throughout the ocean are in danger of going totally extinct, according to a new research paper which has shone a light on the dangers of overfishing the planet's waters.

Species in tropical areas are dying more rapidly, such as those in the Indian Ocean which have seen their populations plummet by 84.7 percent since 1970.Dr Richard Sherley, of the Centre for Ecology and Conservation on Exeter's Penryn Campus in Cornwall, said:"The species that we studied are some of the ocean’s apex predators."Not so. Our global analysis points to some staggering declines.
