McLaren are hoping to get an 'initial read' on Oscar Piastri when he takes part in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi. ✏ Formula_Nerds F1

Oscar Piastri’s Abu Dhabi test with McLaren will be “very important” for the team to see his initial performance, says Andreas Seidl.Silly season kicked off with Sebastian Vettel announcing his retirement from Formula One. Fernando Alonso then confirmed he would be leaving Alpine to join Aston Martin, which many thought would lead to Oscar Piastri stepping up to partner Esteban Ocon.

The post-season test in Abu Dhabi will allow Piastri the chance to drive around the Yas Marina circuit in the 2022 car, which follows the new set of regulations. Completing the day of testing will also give McLaren an “initial read” on what Piastri will need from them ahead of his first full-time Formula One season next year.
