Scientist modelling the effects of local lockdowns say a shallow second wave of cases looks likely no matter what restrictions are used

More basic models have been released for areas including Westminster, Chelsea, Fulham and Kensington. The researchers used data collected from an NHS trust to create an 80-day forecast covering a ‘very wide range of local intervention types’ from shutting pubs to restricting individual households.

Dr Derek Groen, a lecturer in computer simulation at Brunel University and part of the FACS team, said: ‘The models definitely see a second wave in almost all cases, although it looks much less deep than the first wave, but it could be more prolonged.’Theatres in the city remain shut under lockdown laws

The modelling used findings from current scientific studies but can be updated in line with new research by whoever uses the code, Dr Groen added.‘We can put in a number, say, 20%, then run the simulation – but if people want to put in a different number, they can just do more runs and vary the number.’

Simulations have played a major part in how governments choose policies in the fight against coronavirus

Discuss his policies not his background. The hypocrisy of people on all sides is pathetic. Maybe he could express the same to the abuse the current mayor gets.

Sculptor's black 'everywoman' erected on public art walk in LondonThomas J Price’s Reaching Out artwork becomes one of only three public sculptures of black women in UK Ironically, the average 'everywomen' or 'everyman' will be too busy staring at their phones to see this statue of a woman staring at her phone. Really? This is the best pose you could think off? A time when society are slaves to their phones? maybe there aren't many black high achievers in science, arts & literature. Pretty sad when the black person you build a monument to is some girl of zero consequence who has done zero of significance.

Covid-19 rate rises in more than half of London boroughs amid travel ban fearsWorrying new data reveals 17 of London's 32 boroughs saw increases in the infection rate in the week to July 31 - with this trebling in Barking and Dagenham Well at the end of next week the U.K. will be back into full lockdown- all because people are failing to social distance and there is no enforcement Apart from Barking and Dagenham I would hardly call cases ‘soaring’.... And in that case of places like Redbridge are SOARING... 7.6 from 5.3 Then surely places like Bexley are PLUMMETING... 4.4 from 7.7 If a 2.3 case (+) is soaring then surely a 3.3 case (-) is the reverse Spouting shite again
