Wright saw his rebound strike ruled out after James Tavernier had missed a controversial penalty against Hibs.

And the Rangers winger is well aware his side can't afford to put a foot wrong as they got toe-to-toe with Celtic in Sunday’s crucial Old Firm showdown. Philippe Clement’s team head into the third derby battle of the campaign trailing Brendan Rodgers’ table-toppers by a point but boasting a game in hand.

And Wright admits Rangers are looking to sharpen up ahead of next weekend. He said: “The manager is obviously big on everyone helping out, whether that’s the defenders scoring goals, the midfielders or strikers. Celtic edged December’s derby at Parkhead too but that was one of the few set-backs this Light Blues line-up has suffered since Clement’s October appointment. “Every game here is important and it is going to be an important one next week,” said Wright.

Wright would be walking a little taller today had the VAR not pulled him up for having a toe inside the box as Marshall clawed out Tavernier’s spot-kick. Sportscene pundits James McFadden and Neil McCann felt Gers should have at least had another go at the debated penalty - awarded after Nectarios Triantis’s flailing arm into the face of John Souttar was picked up by the officials - on the basis that a couple of Hibs players had gone early into the box too.
