Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s has won the general election after opposition leader Bill Shorten conceded it knowing his party wouldn’t win a majority.
The former leader announced the decision this afternoon, having realised his party were not going to win a majority of 76 seats against Morrison’s conservative Liberal Party-led coalition.He thanked a string of politicians, including former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who lost the seat he’d held in Sydney’s northern beaches since 1994.
Opposition leaders had become fairly confident they could win today, having driven a hard campaign focussing on the fight against climate change.
