A SCHOOL has been forced to apologise after students were asked to write a mock suicide note.Cheney School in Headington, Oxford, where the pupils were given the taskGCSE students at Cheney School in Headington, Oxford, were given the task while studying J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls.

After one mum complained, dubbing it a "massive fail", the school apologised saying it was "very sorry for any distress caused".she was "genuinely shocked" when her child told her about the task. She said: "The actual assignment was 'imagine you are a young woman in 1912 writing a suicide letter to those who care about you'."I genuinely feel it could be done well to raise awareness of teen mental health and suicide, but this was a massive fail.An Inspector Calls was first performed in English at the Old Vic in 1946.It is about an upper-class family who live in the Midlands, and are visited by a man calling himself an inspector.

"This topic was delivered sensitively with a focus on the events leading up to the character, Eva Smith's, death rather than the death itself. "During all the lessons students were advised that, if they found the topic of suicide distressing, they could excuse themselves from the lesson.
