SATs tests in schools have started - have a go at answering the questions

Primary school pupils across the country are set to undertake their SATs tests this week, with assessments targeting youngsters in Years 2 and 6.

These tests, which are designed for children as young as six, take place each May. Although no longer compulsory for Key Stage 1 , many schools are still proceeding with them. Year 6 students in Key Stage 2 will also be tested in maths and English. Over the years, SATs have sparked controversy, with ongoing calls from some parents and teachers to abolish the tests. They argue that these exams have transformed schools into exam factories and have alienated children from education.

In Maths, children are assessed on arithmetic and reasoning, while in English, they are tested on spelling, punctuation, and grammar. We've compiled a series of English and Maths questions aimed at Year 6 children. These were some of the questions included in last year's Key Stage 2 tests. Teachers aim to keep the testing procedure informal. Papers are not strictly timed and are usually taken in a normal classroom situation or in small groups in KS1, to minimise pressure on the children.You don't need to share your results with us . However, we've included some multiple-choice answers, even though students don't always have this option.
