Ms Weddington won the 1973 court case, Roe v Wade, that made abortions legal across the United States.

The case of 'Jane Roe' was brought against Dallas County District Attorney Henry Wade and eventually advanced to the Supreme CourtA lawyer who as a 26-year-old won a landmark court case to make abortions legal across the US has died. She was 76.

She had been in poor health for some time and it was not immediately clear what caused her death, Ms Hays added. A couple of years after graduating, she and a former classmate, Linda Coffee, brought a class-action lawsuit on behalf of a pregnant woman challenging a state law that largely banned abortions.In 1973, Sarah Weddington successfully argued the landmark abortion rights case
