A government official says the move is about 'building trust based on good community information, not on Big Brother'.

Mr Peskin said it is unclear how many San Francisco departments are using surveillance and for what purposes.

The ban applies to police and other city departments, and does not affect use of the technology by the federal government at airports and ports.San Francisco supervisor Catherine Stefani, who was the only one to vote against the ban, said:"I worry about politicising these decisions."The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, a non-profit think tank based in Washington DC, issued a statement criticising San Francisco for considering the facial recognition ban.

A representative at Tuesday's board meeting said the force would need two to four additional employees to comply with the legislation.Privacy campaigners have been at loggerheads with those in favour of the technology at several heated hearings in San Francisco.

Like all security measures, why worry if you aren’t doing anything wrong.

San Francisco is shit , looks nice while you drive in your car and look at the colorful housing but get into the city a little deeper and reality is, it is dirty people are twacked out of their heads , Mexicans everywhere , homeless shit everywhere..not worth the trip at all!

Do the police not have a hard enough job as it is. Just another attack by the hard left on society. Police should be given the resources and tools to track criminals

To protect the illegal immigrants

San Francisco has 10000 homeless people
