Proposal aimed at freeing up NHS beds and offering home care could be included in white paper on reform

At present, local authorities have responsibility for running social care services in their own areas. Critics say there is, as a result, insufficient incentive for cash-strapped councils to develop better care for people in their homes or in the community, as it is cheaper for them if those in need go into hospital where the cost is met from the separate NHS budget.

There's already a flaw in this as the Tories can't do plans. All that will happen is privatisation.

I thought Jeremy Hunt was supposed to do that?

We already have health and care integration in Scotland not that the M25 Guardian would know.

I should imagine cash strapped Councils will be coerced into accepting the move however what uplift will there be to the budget for normal health services to cater for this extra workload?

I worked in an amazing integrated team from 2020 until Conservatives came into power in 2010 at which point the Social Care staff were removed…. bit of a U turn here sajidjavid .

The privatisation of all care provision.....

If it's a Tory idea it will either be bad or not be implemented.

And privatize the result?

The problem with this plan is Health managers think they could do it better but don't fully understand the realities of making an underfunded care system work. A realistically funded Care Service working collaboratively rather than one subsumed by the NHS behemoth would do better

I wonder which of his mates is in for a windfall of public cash this time?

lilminxem ‘Radical plan’ = ‘Deride it, break it, sell it’ DisasterCapitalism

It needs a joined up approach.

Wow radical! Integrated thinking on caring for people...who would have thought of that before? Obviously some donor has seen the chance to make a buck..

They have so many successes in health care. The best what he can do for country is resignation.
