The chancellor has refused to rule out reversing stamp duty so it is paid by the seller, rather than the buyer.
These clowns are just looking down the back of the sofa for loose change to make up for all the balls ups they are making... 2bn on no deal prep, universal credit disaster. People will just bake the stamp duty into the price of the house or stay put.
What brilliant fucking idea, let's add a few thousand more to a sellers costs, a much better idea would be to stop it all together.
So for those of us who paid stamp duty when we brought it we have to pay it again when we sell it? ... having already paid tax on the money from the wage we earn to buy the house anyway!
Not sure about this, I paid stamp duty when I bought my house 15 years ago and when I go into a retirement home I’ll have to pay it again while the purchaser doesn’t? Or am I missing something?
This actually seems a reasonably sensible policy. The selling party will have been subject to all sorts of tax breaks and favourable conditions in the past, the buyer finds it much harder to get on the ladder. To simplify things, why should the boomer get another payout?
Will he make shops pay the VAT when they sell something, or will HMRC pay me tax when I earn income?
