But Steven Naismith is fast becoming a huge one himself. And just like with the skipper, I’d like to think the Tynecastle hierarchy have a contingency plan in place in case a bigger club comes calling for the manager. Because if Naisy can build on what has been achieved in the last 12 moths next season - like he says he wants to - then it will become increasingly difficult to hold onto him.
But by the same token, one thing for certain in football is that success brings opportunities elsewhere. You look at the Hearts manager and the career he had as a player and you just know he will want to be as successful as he possibly can be. Back in July and August there were sections of the support disgruntled about the management situation, with Naisy relegated to number two - on paper at least - due to European competition regulations. We all knew the reality of the situation. It was a bit of a mess and the early European exit and indifferent early form where they won just three of their opening 10 league games had critics sharpening their knives.
But I still think they need to push the boat out to get another striker in to help Lawrence. And should our worst fears arise and he is tempted away from Hearts then make that two top class strikers.
