Kyle Glen, an open source investigator at conflict monitoring group the Centre for Information Resilience, says the tanks are increasingly common and evolving into new forms, evoking the improvised vehicles from dystopian movie franchise“Definitely in the last six weeks they have started appearing more and more,” he said. “We are seeing more different kinds of-looking creations with loose hanging chains, or extra armour bolted on and then adding cages.
“It seems they are not being equipped to fight in the same way as other tanks, they are mostly there to clear a path,” he said. “In a lot of the videos we see, which are filmed by Ukrainian drones, they are at the head of a column and everything else falls in behind them as they clear the mines or draw the drones or whatever else the Ukrainians are firing.”
