🗣 'We've seen it far worse in the past.' Mercedes driver George Russell has called out the 'totally unnecessary' first red flag in F1's AustralianGP that has left him questioning the FIA's decision-making ⬇️

In his assessment of the handling of the incident, Russell questioned the FIA's decision-making.

The Grand Prix Drivers' Association director said:"I thought the red flag was totally unnecessary. There was obviously quite a bit of gravel on the track, but there was a clear racing line. We've seen it far worse in the past. "It's sort of reminiscent of the decision of last week in Saudi to bring out the safety car when the car was totally off the track.Photo by: Jake Grant /"So, I don't really know what's going on with some of the decisions at the moment.

"We're all trying to work together with the FIA to improve things, but it's seemingly a bit of a challenge."

sorry to say, but the Australian GP has been very badly managed by race control - in the interest of creating interesting spectacle ? At least the two last 'restarts' where completely unnecessary, the last two laps could have been finished behind the safety car

Mate, they needed to repair the barriers. Jog on.

The Red Flag was correct. Next.

Totally agree with George’s call. Surely gravel could have been swept up while cars were queued behind Safety Car …. Didn’t need a red flag!!

Red flag was necessary George but a rolling start would have helped to prevent that carnage

It’ll be for all the gravel that got sprayed as a result

The only thing they’ve got in their favour is 2 cars against Max but I suspect Max will have enough in hand to cover them off.
